PLEASE NOTE:
"Poisonous" does not mean deadly. Some manifestations of toxicity are subtle. The dose, as always, determines if a plant is safe source of nutrients or a toxic hazard.

BRIEF: Is this peace plant toxic?

QUESTION:
My husband just brought home a beautiful peace plant with white flowers. Can you tell me if it is toxic?

ANSWER:

Is this the Peace Lily? Spathiphylum? There are no recorded cases of poisoning, but if she chewed on the leaves, the microscopic oxalate raphides (tiny needles) would make her mouth and tongue swell up and hurt so that she would sure not want to eat anything green for a long, long time. There may be other harmful compounds, but have no records of them.
