"Poisonous" does not mean deadly. Some manifestations of toxicity are subtle. The dose, as always, determines if a plant is safe source of nutrients or a toxic hazard.

BRIEF: Do you know of any oral medication to prevent Poison Ivy?

QUESTION:
I am planning a camping trip for this coming weekend. I am highly allergic to poison ivy. I have heard mention of something to take orally to prevent poison ivy. I looked on the Internet but only found "IvyBlock" which is a lotion to prevent it. Do you know of any oral meds to prevent it?

ANSWER:

Oral desensitization treatments were withdrawn from the market ten years ago or so, I think. Others are in the works, but as yet unavailable. Recognizing it and not touching it remains the best way to avoid the allergic reaction. And avoiding your dog and family's clothing is the other.
