"Poisonous" does not mean deadly. Some manifestations of toxicity are subtle. The dose, as always, determines if a plant is safe source of nutrients or a toxic hazard.

BRIEF: Are sycamore leaves poisonous to horses?

QUESTION:
I have a horse that became very jaundice, lethargic, off feed, a slight temp.(103), breathing elevated, I know she ate the leaves off of the sycamore tree, they were just young leaves that were sprouting off of an established tree. The vets gave her 30cc of Gentomycin and 60 cc of Penicillin per day. She seems to be better but I honestly think that's what made her sick since she is a chow hound. Are they toxic to horses and what would the symptoms be?

ANSWER:

I have never heard of sycamore leaves being a problem, but I will look into it. Alsike clover, grounsel and a couple of other things can do this though (as well as diseases of several descriptions).
